MISSION:

The National Defense Act of 2000, Public Law 106-65 went into effect on 1 January 2000.  This law congressionally mandates the team to render final honors for active duty, veteran, and retired Air Force members

FACTS:

  • In calendar year 2003, the Honor Guard performed at 167 retiree funerals, 339 veteran funerals, and 10 active duty funerals.

  • In calendar year 2004, the Honor Guard performed at 146 retiree funerals, 248 veteran funerals, and 2 active duty funerals.

  • The Tinker Honor Guard averages 40 funerals and 30 civic functions per month

  • Area of responsibility spans approximately 36,000 square miles (41 out of 77 counties) throughout the state of Oklahoma

  • The Tinker Honor Guard is comprised of Active Duty Air Force along with members from the 507 ARW reserve unit and the 137 ANG unit out of  Will Rogers ANG.

  • As of 1 Nov 06, the Tinker Honor Guard had 109 members

    OBLIGATIONS:

    • Membership agreement signed by supervisor, first sergeant, and commander for a 1-year commitment.

    • 36 detail commitment (min of 3 details per month)

    TRAINING:

    • Regardless of past honor guard experience and highly due to the fact that our procedures are ever-changing, each new member must complete a five-day training class covering all aspects of honor guard drill and ceremonies.

    • Upon graduation, new members receive the Honor Guard Ceremonial uniform free of charge-a $600 uniform at no cost to the member.

    BENEFITS:

    • $600 honor guard uniform at no cost. This includes a new service jacket, two pair of pants, ever shine shoes, ceremonial belt, hat, aiguillette, and all alterations

    • Dry cleaning of ceremonial uniform at no cost at Linen Exchange

    • Air Force Achievement Medal eligibility for completing 12 productive months and 300 hours on the team, endorsed by 72 MSG/CC

    • Annual Honor Guard Banquet hosted each year by the Tinker First Sergeants Group

    • Eligible for Tinker Honor Guard Member of the Quarter which is included in the Team Tinker Quarterly Awards Ceremony

    • Reserved parking space at BX, Commissary, and the Honor Guard office 

    • Day pass recommended by Combat Support Flight Commander for every 50 detail hours performed

    • Honor Guard Coins
