FAMILY CHILDCARE PROGRAM STANDARDS

ASSESSING AND MEETING THE NEED FOR CARE

The need for family childcare is determined and each program works aggressively to meet that need.

ENDURING ONLY LICENSED INDIVIDUALS OFFER CARE AND QUALITY CARE IS PROVIDED

Each program ensures that only those licensed to provide family childcare offer care and that the care offered is quality child care.

PROCESSING APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSING OR AFFILIATION

Each program ensures applications for licensing or affiliation are processed in a timely manner and in accordance with Air Force requirements.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROVIDERS

Only providers who meet the Air Force's requirements are licensed or affiliated.

PRE-APPROVAL PROCESS

Each program ensures the Air Force's requirements for licensing and affiliating family childcare providers are followed.

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

The family childcare program is administered in accordance with AFI 34-276.

PARENT INVOLVMENT, EDUCATION, AND SUPPORT

Parents using family child care are encouraged to participate in parent activities and are provided parent education materials and assistance in finding childcare.

MARKETING, PUBLIC RELATIONS, AND RECOGNITION

Each program recruits and retains providers and provides information to parents and the community about family childcare.

PROGRAM STAFFING, FUNDING, AND RESOURCING

Appropriated Fund staff and resources are used to support the family childcare program and reduce providers' costs.

FAMILY CHILD CARE PANEL

Each program establishes a family child care panel that oversees the family child care program and ensures that each child's health, safety, and well being are protected.

LICENSING

The Air Force procedures for issuing, suspending, revoking, and transferring licenses are followed.

FAMILY CHILD CARE LENDING PROGRAM

The program offers a lending program for providers which helps them offer quality care at a reasonable cost and reduces the cost for individuals to be providers.

TRAINING OF FAMILY CARE STAFF AND PROVIDERS

Training is provided to help each provider offer quality childcare.

FAMILY CHILD CARE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS

Family childcare is offered to help meet the needs of families and the community for special types of childcare.

ONGOING MONITORING OF FAMILY CHILD CARE PROVIDERS

Unannounced visits are made to each licensed and affiliated family childcare home following Air Force procedures.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

Each program ensures that family childcare providers have the required liability and automobile liability insurance.

PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT

Each program ensures that the potential for children to be victims of child abuse and neglect while in family childcare is minimized.
